Each Christmas our hearts and minds are reminded of the sleepy little village called Bethlehem. We rightly think of Bethlehem as the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. However, Bethlehem’s history is much deeper than that single night. In fact, the first mention of this sleepy village is all the way back in the book of Genesis in connection to the burial site of Jacob’s love, Each week we will look at a event from Bethlehem to uncover the significant events that paved the way for Jesus’ birth.

Have you ever felt that you were unworthy to be used by God? Perhaps this feeling is caused by the sin in your life. Maybe it’s because you feel like you have no talents or gifts that are worthy enough to be used. Perhaps you feel as if in your advancing age, there is little you can do. Today we want to challenge those doubts. The Christmas story is filled with God working in unconventional ways to accomplish His purpose.

Have you ever longed for a simpler time? Or perhaps you have found yourself on several occasions fondly looking back at the good ol’ days. Maybe that is something you will do this Christmas season. You will think back to those Christmas mornings as a child, all the wonder and magic of the season. Or maybe for you it is those moments watching your own children open their presents. As good as our past may be, in Jesus we have a hope in the days yet to come. This morning, as we go back to Bethlehem, we will recognize the value of looking back and the joy of looking forward.

Each Christmas our hearts and minds are reminded of the sleepy little village called Bethlehem. We rightly think of Bethlehem as the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. However, Bethlehem’s history is much deeper than that single night. In fact, the first mention of this sleepy village is all the way back in the book of Genesis in connection to the burial site of Jacob’s love, Rachel. Today, we turn to the story of Naomi and Ruth as we begin a journey to uncover the significant events in Bethlehem that paved the way for Jesus’ birth.
