The Church is designed by God to be a family, and one of the things that make up any family is multiple generations. Sadly, in our current culture, there seems to be a lot of division among our generations. This division threatens the church because the younger don’t learn from the older, and the older are not revived by the passion of the younger. In this series we will seek to understand the four major generations that make up our church an how we can unite to love and lead people to a life changing relationship with Jesus.
We also want to give a special thank you to Southland Christian Church in Lexington, Ky, for sharing their media package with us for this series. |

As you stand and look at your generation, your upbringing, and the circumstances of your life that have shaped you, do you like what you see? Are you proud of who you are and those who helped make you who you are? Or, do you see the flaws and the pains, and wish you could start over? As we close out our Generations series today, we will recognize that while we cannot change our past, we can impact our future and the future of those we leave behind.

Over the past several weeks we have looked at the four generations currently leading our society and our churches. We have learned about the Builders, Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials. Each generation brings something unique and positive to our society. However, despite the positives, too often we let the negatives divide us. In the church, we cannot settle for this because our mission is too important. Today, we are going to take what we have learned about each other and determine how to leverage our differences for the health of the church.

Today we come to our final generation in our series: The Millennials. This generation is very criticized in the way they are discussed by the older generations. However, is this criticism warranted? Today, as we seek to understand the Millennial Generation, we will see why Millennials are the way they are, and what positive lessons we can learn from them.

Once called the slacker generation, Gen X, now all nearly in their 40’s and older, is emerging into a powerful generation that is leading our nation. Today we will see all that Generation X has to offer.

The Baby Boomer generation, born between 1946 and 1964, were the result of a baby birth explosion. Following years of difficulty during the great depression and WWII, returning GI were ready to start their families. With families moving to the suburbs, and mom and dad working, the Boomers grew up in front of TV screens, under the constant threat of nuclear war. This generation came of age during Vietnam, civil rights marches, and lots of political activism. Today we will learn some lessons about them, and how we can reach this generation for Christ today.

The Builder generation, born before 1945, endured the Great Depression, World War II, and even put a man on the moon. Many of them grew up working the land, instilling in them a strong work ethic. Because of the depression, many are financially conservative, and are loyal to their families, churches, and professions. Today we will learn some lessons from them and talk about how we can bless them.

God created His church to be a multi-generational family. Our younger people need to experience the wisdom and experiences of our older people. Our older people need to experience the passion and energy of our younger people. However, if we are being honest we don’t always do well at experiencing each other. Today, we begin a journey where we will try to understand one another and become that truly multi-generational family God created.
We experienced audio problems with the 11:00 worship portion of the service. Therefore, this recording only has the sermon portion.
